Our Story

About Unplug:

Unplug meditation, the world's first drop-in, secular meditation studio, opened its doors in April of 2014. Our wide variety of simple and eclectic classes are led by the top experts and some of the best meditation teachers in the country. We edited the practice of meditation to make it interesting, inspirational and easy for everyone from busy skeptics to modern soul-seekers.  Our mission is to make it effortless to learn, and to inspire you to pause,breathe and unplug daily.  When you experience the powerful effects, including deleting stress, increasing productivity, finding your purpose in life and becoming calmer, healthier and happier you get hooked! 

Our clients range from ages 6 to 96, from CEOs of Fortune 500 companies to the everyday stressed-out. Our method works on anyone and everyone willing to commit. Scientific studies have shown that meditation can literally change your brain in eight weeks with consistent practice, though we have seen our clients' lives change in as little as two weeks. Again and again we hear stories from clients whose blood pressure has dropped, chronic pain subsided, panic attacks vanished and happiness greatly amplified. And the benefits go on and on.

The History:

In November of 2012, the big idea came when Suze Yalof Schwartz, CEO/Founder of Unplug, was taught a powerful three-minute breathing and guided visualization technique that transformed her stress to calm. Blown away and wanting more, her teacher (who was also her mother-in-law) suggested meditation. Suze’s search for a place to easily learn meditation yielded disappointing results for a busy, working mother. The options were all time-consuming and expensive. Suze wondered, Where is the Drybar of meditation? Where you can walk in feeling icky and walk out feeling great?

Hello, Unplug! 

Suze called on her decades of work at Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and Glamour, and her experience as the regular makeover guru  on GMA, The Today Show and CBS This Morning, to give meditation a makeover of its own. After taking hundreds of hours of classes and courses, reading every book possible, and listening to podcasts, lectures, and more from the world’s most famous meditation teachers, Suze curated the best of what was out there to build Unplug. As a busy person who believes that meditation can be delivered without excess fluff or fuss, Suze built the studio that she would want to go to from the space to the content and teachers. She's on a mission to inspire everyone to join her and unplug for just a few minutes a day. 

What started out as a small meditation utopia for Suze and anyone who wanted to join her has turned into a global sensation. People fly in from around the country and as from as far away as Tokyo and South Africa to experience Unplug Meditation. The Unplug influence is spreading fast, as studios inspired by our method are beginning to pop up around the country. This is great news, as we believe the more people that meditate, the better the world will be. Every human being has the right to be happy and stress free!
